Dr. Claire Card is a professor in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM), part of the University of Saskatchewan.
Claire’s research centres on reproduction in large animals, with a special emphasis on equine reproduction—spanning broodmares, stallions, and foals—and extends to methods such as semen cryopreservation and imaging-assisted gamete assessment. Over her many years at WCVM, she has helped build the institution’s reputation as a referral hub for equine fertility services. Her teaching is recognised for being student-centred, combining clinical mentorship, hands-on training, and a “One Health” perspective in veterinary education. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the field of reproduction, she was awarded the “Theriogenologist of the Year” by the American College of Theriogenologists in 2020. Claire combines clinical excellence, pioneering research in equine reproduction, and a committed, student-centred teaching philosophy — making her a key faculty member at WCVM and an asset to the veterinary reproductive medicine community.
