Elise Sasha Leverett, LLB, LLM, is a legal scholar with a particular interest in the intersection of law, equine breeding and emerging reproductive technologies. She obtained her LLB in International and European Law from the University of Groningen and subsequently completed an LLM in International Business Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Her academic work focuses on the legal challenges created by rapidly developing reproductive biotechnologies in the horse industry. In her master's thesis, Elise examined the contractual governance of cloned horses in professional polo, using the dispute involving La Dolfina and Crestview Genetics as a case study. Her research explored questions surrounding ownership, commercialization rights, licensing, party autonomy and the allocation of economic value when elite equine genetics can be replicated through cloning.

With her combined interest in horses, law and reproductive biotechnology, Elise brings a different perspective to the discussion surrounding advanced reproductive technologies. Her work highlights an increasingly important question for the equine breeding industry: as our ability to reproduce and manipulate valuable genetics advances, how should ownership, control and commercial rights over those genetics be defined?
